University of Washington
The University of Washington is the most historic university on the West Coast was Founded in 1861. UW is in the University District neighborhood of Seattle, Washington, locally known as “the U district”. The College of Engineering, School of Medicine, and School of Business are all highly ranked, and UW continues to excel as a research-focused institution.
There are approximately 500 student clubs and associations and an active brotherhood and sisterhood. Freshman are not required to live on campus and UW is known to be a commuter school. Pomona College

Green Bikes hosts several bicycle-related workshops and related outreach events aimed at promoting the development of an on-campus biking community. Another great feature of Green Bikes that makes it quite attractive is that Green Bikes provides 200 students a free bicycle for the entire semester, with parts and service included. Green Bikes also permits students to check out a bicycle on a short-term basis.
Cornell University
In 1991, the Cornell Office of Transportation Services initiated the Cornell Bikeway Project to produce groundwork for a bicycle transportation master plan. Since then, several initiatives contributed to encouraging biking at Cornell.
Cornell University offers two courses in biking. The Bike Touring class enables students to “learn the ins and outs of bike touring,” while learning about route planning, bike safety, and other relevant information. Students participate in an overnight bike tour. The Mountain Biking course instructs students on riding single and double track trails, to grind up hills and explore local trails. Students learn to get the most out of mountain biking through other course features.
The Cornell University Police Bike Patrol provides bicycling education. Campus officers on bike patrol are certified Police Cyclists through the International Police Mountain Bike Association (IPMBA).

University of Louisville
The University of Louisville has the distinction of the “Most bicycle-friendly University in Kentucky.” When awarded the silver award as a bicycle-friendly university in 2013, that distinction was the highest ranking for any Kentucky university.
Committed to sustainability, the University of Louisville encourages students to discover the benefits of biking. UoL provides fun biking opportunities, such as “Pedal with the President,” where students participate in a 30-minute bike ride with the University of Louisville President. UoL also provides opportunities for students to sign up for the National Bike Challenge.
To encourage biking, the University of Louisville features a unique program. Students, staff and faculty willing to forego a parking permit for at least two years can complete an application to receive a $400 voucher to an area bike shop. Penn State University
Before you start riding, make sure you become aware of the Penn State Bicycle Rules & Regulations. If your bike needs repair, stop at one of the four campus Fix-It bicycle repair locations.
The Penn State Cycling Club considers itself “a student-powered organization,” seeking to improve cycling opportunities for cyclists at all performance and interest levels. The club rides the trails nearly every day and takes weekly group cycling rides. The Penn State Cycling Club maintains a social media presence and suggests that “limits are for those that don’t ride bikes.”
Georgetown University
Established in 1789, Georgetown is the oldest Catholic university in the United States. Located in Washington DC, the University overlooks the Potomac River and is just outside of downtown DC. The fantastic location offers students opportunities to intern in their field and enjoy the culture of the nation’s capitol. Georgetown has several schools offering undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies.

Texas Tech University
Bike Tech is a collaboration between the Texas Tech University Student Government Association and the Texas Tech Outdoor Pursuits Center in an effort to make the campus more bike-friendly. Obtain bike information, rent a bike or make repairs on your bicycle.
Students can also take advantage of the free air stations, get free tube sealant and patch kits. If you do not know how to repair your bike, the full-service Bike Shop is conveniently located on campus to make most types of repairs for you. Texas Tech makes getting around campus a breeze for bike riders with regulations that permit riding your bicycle in bike lanes, streets, and some campus sidewalks. Texas Tech gives a link to the Lubbock Bike Path map for cyclists when biking off campus.
Some students elect to join the West Texas Cycling Association to take advantage of biking events, competitions and socializing. At the beginning of each school year, Texas Tech hosts “Rec Fest,” an opportunity for students to participate in fun recreational events. Clemson University
Clemson University not only offers bike paths for students and faculty but also features the Bicycle Research Team. The Bicycle Research Team focuses on its mission to “improve bicycling opportunities through research and service.”

California State Long Beach
California State Long Beach takes pride in “promoting sustainable transportation options.” For cyclists new to biking or who need a refresher, Cal State – Long Beach offers free classes in bicycle safety.
The CSULB Parking and Transportation Services Department offers Traffic Skills 101 (TS 101). The fast-paced course gives bike riders skills and confidence to safely ride in traffic or on bike trails. Basic mechanics, drivers ed for cyclists and how to take evasive maneuvers to avoid crashes are just a few course features. The campus community also benefits from free bicycle safety checks and Fix-It Clinics provided by JAX bicycle mechanics.
The League of American Bicyclists awarded CSULB two national awards. The University is proud of the silver “Bicycle University” award and the gold award for “Bicycle Friendly Business.” The bike path map not only features designated on-campus bike paths but displays bike routes throughout the city. Students contribute to CSULB sustainable transportation efforts and save on the costs of gas and parking when biking.
Old Dominion University
As a 2013 bronze-level winner of the Bicycle Friendly Universities Award, ODU prides itself on “taking steps to make riding safer and more comfortable for students, faculty, staff and visitors to the campus.” ODU features the Bike ODU bike sharing program. Each bike rental comes with U-lock, helmet and basket, and is available for up to a one-week rental period.
ODU recognizes the benefits of biking, including decreasing carbon emissions, creating a sense of community and increasing physical activity. University of Vermont
The University of Vermont recognizes the benefits of cycling and fully supports cycling as a transportation alternative. The UVM Transportation Department purchased 25 new bike racks in 2015 to accommodate the growing number of UVM bike riders.
Some halls contain inside bike rooms, giving building residents the opportunity to sign out a bike room key at the main desk in their building. As a silver-level Bicycle Friendly College, UVM promotes cycling through its Bicycle User’s Group (BUG) Bike Share program and the campus rental program.
The UVM Cycling Team accommodates the needs and goals of all team members, whether a team member wants to learn fundamentals of cycling or to become a champion, cyclist. UVM is a member of the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference. Competitive racing recently paid off for the UV Cycling team when the team dominated at a national finals event.
Columbia University
Columbia has been recognized the health and recreational benefits of biking and developed a study to “help map bike-commuting air quality.” Public safety officers issue bike locks at discounted rates and educate bicyclists on safety and regulations.
A bronze level Bicycle Friendly Campuse, Columbia University students, may also participate in the Columbia University Cycling Team. The cycling team “competes in collegiate and USCF races and is open to full-time students of Columbia University.”
Temple University

The University strives to improve biking on and around campus, create connecting bike routes throughout the campus and fund biking improvement efforts. UNC-Chapel Hill features biking maps to educate riders on biking locations.

Stanford University
Stanford University is a Platinum-level Bicycle-Friendly University that promotes biking on campus as “an exceptional environment where bicycling can thrive.” If you need to learn biking skills, Stanford offers classes to accommodate even those who have no biking experience.
The Bike Shop State College offers bike repair clinics. If you receive a bicycle citation, you can take the Bike Safety & Bike Diversion Class. The cycling team promotes safe, recreational cycling and participates in regular competitions. Stanford features 38 miles of backpaths around campus and comes in at #2 on our ranking.
Duke University
Duke University provides opportunities for students to register as either a full-time or part-time bike commuter. The Bike Share Program offers bike rentals for a nominal annual fee. Several biking opportunities keep cycling enthusiasts active throughout the year for fun and sport as Duke strives to achieve climate neutrality by 2024.

Yale University
Founded in 1701, Yale University is a private institution in New Haven, Connecticut. Yale is an Ivy League school that is best known for the exceptional music and drama programs. It is comprised of the college, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and an additional 13 professional schools. Yale’s undergraduate program is one of the best in the country with senior staff members teaching introductory and undergraduate courses.
There are more than 450 student groups and organizations on campus and students take great pride in the a cappella group as well as the Yale Dramatic Association. The Bulldogs compete in the Ivy League, with their biggest rival being Harvard. Top ranked schools include the Law School, Divinity School, and The School of Drama. Michigan State University

MSU Bikes provides bike repairs and maintenance, bike rentals and bicycles for sale. MSU Bikes works with campus planners to improve bicycle infrastructure. University of Kentucky
The nationally-recognized Wildcat Wheels Bike Library provides free bike rentals to students and staff. Get bike repairs through Wildcat Wheels or at one of the campus bike repair stations. Several air stations keep bike riders on the road instead of in a repair shop when a flat occurs. If you do not know how to repair your own bike, the Mobile Bike Shop provides bike maintenance, clinics and workshops on the UK campus.
The University of Kentucky just started a new program that encourages students to donate their bicycles at the end of the term rather than just abandoning it on campus. Oklahoma State University
Oklahoma State University requires bike riders to take the online bike safety tutorial and quiz prior to registering their bike on campus to further their knowledge of bicycle safety. Harvard University

University of Virginia
The UBike Program at the University of Virginia is a simple, easy to understand, easy to access bike share program that allows students to reserve a bike via the Social Bikes mobile app and return the bike to any hub location. Rent for the period you need at the rate of $3.00 an hour or up to a yearly rental at just $60 for students, staff and faculty members.

The campus Wednesday Night Bike Ride event takes cyclists on weekly tours around town, exploring bike trails, sampling area food, and exploring the city. The Mountain Bike Basics Day Trip class gives instruction on mountain biking and the basics of bike handling. Price includes the use of a mountain bike and helmet.
The UoM Twin Cities Cycling Team is a recreational and competitive cycling group and USA Cycling licensed collegiate racing team in the North Central Collegiate Cycling Conference, which the team won at the team level for 16 years.
